Welcome back to Art with Heart's Colour Creations Showcase. This week - Week 36 - we are looking at Poppy Parade. I love this "red" and was so happy when it was reintroduced as an ongoing colour in the Brights Collection a couple of years ago.
My card this week morphed out of nowhere on Saturday night during Victoria's snap "circuit-breaker" lockdown. Originally I was going to use the Painted Poppies stamp set but then I thought there might be a few using that set, so could I use a different stamp set? I knew I wanted to use some Designer Series Paper, and Poppy Parade was the colour of course, but that was about it.
The next day was Valentines Day and I hadn't made a card for hubby, so this was born.
The card actually started from the top down.
I cut a test panel of "brick" paper from the In Good Taste DSP and when I looked at my recently acquired stamp sets - the flower from the A Touch of Ink stamp set (a Saleabration freebie), caught my eye. I could see the flowers and leaves trailing down a brick wall in a garden.
So I stamped the flower and leaves in Memento Ink and coloured them with my Stampin' Blends in Light & Dark Poppy Parade and Granny Apply Green.
I was so happy with the result that I decided to use my "test" panel for the card. I started adding mats in Poppy Parade & Basic Gray to build up the card to Aussie dimensions. I didn't want a lot of cardstock to show, as I really wanted to highlight the stamped and coloured DSP. After some help from my stampin' buddies, Marlene and Joy, I decided to use Vellum as the actual card base.
Because this was a Valentine's Day card, I simply stamped the word "Love" from the same stamp set onto some scrap DSP. I cut it out and adhered it with Stampin' Dimensionals. In the back of my mind it was like graffiti on the brickwork...naughty naughty!
I decorated the inside as I usually do, but had to add a cardstock panel (in Basic Gray) to the left hand side. This was to cover the glue that showed through the vellum from what I had adhered to the front of the card.
I also adhered a Basic Gray cardstock panel to the very back of the card. In addition to hiding the glue, having cardstock on all fours panels assisted with the stability of the card 😃

Have a great rest of your week, especially those of you in Victoria, where lockdown is lifted tonight at 11:59pm. YAY!
Until next time (hopefully next week)
(Note: Hubby hasn't got the card yet as he is away with work and is not back until next week!)

ReplyDeleteYour card is so cool! I *love* the idea of the vellum card base, and the flowers and graffiti look amazing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, it really does look like the flowers and growing up the wall
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this to bits, Fiona! I am a big fan of stamping directly onto DSP, but hadn't thought to do anything like this. I love the scene you've created. Awesome card!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome Fiona! I love stamping on DSP and yours looks amazing with the Poppy Parade colouring! I just love this card - the stamp, the DSP, the vellum! Go you!
ReplyDeleteOh, I have never thought to use vellum as the card base, so clever. Stamping directly onto the DSP looks fabulous, especially with the brick wall paper.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful and special card Fiona. I love the stamping, and colouring directly onto the dsp, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful card Fiona. I often forget to stamp directly onto the DSP but you've done it beautifully. It reminds me of a creeping geranium.
