Well Week 8 of the Art with Heart Colour Creations Showcase is upon us. Who would have guessed that I would make it this far? Not me!
This week team participants are creating with Calypso Coral. This is my card - with a Basic Black card base and Calypso Coral mat:
I was really happy with my Whisper White background. Here's how I did it:
1. I cut a piece of scrap computer paper the same size as the Whisper White mat.
2. Using a die from Stitched Rectangles I cut out a rectangle from the computer paper.
3. I inked the top layer of Subtle 3D embossing folder in Calypso Cora.
4. I popped the computer paper (with the rectangle cut out) on top of the Whisper White and then put both pieces in the embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot. The computer paper acted as a mask so that whilst the entire Whisper White cardstock was embossed, the only part that was 'ínked' was where the rectangle had been cut out.
The flower is from the Tasteful Touches stamp set. It is stamped in Black Memento on Whisper White cardstock and coloured using the Light and Dark Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends. It has been fussy cut and raised with dimensionals. It's a bit hard to see in the photo but I used Wink of Stella on the dark parts of the petals.
The leaves are cut in Basic Black using a die from Forever Flourishing. A little bit of gold thread and the flower accent was done.
And as you know - never leave the insert blank!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you can drop in next week too!

Oh, very clever! I love that inking the embossing folder in Calypso Coral yielded such a bold result, when uninked it is so subtle. Beautiful card, Fiona.
ReplyDeleteWow! This looks great Fiona! I love your use of the Wink of Stella. Ben

ReplyDeleteSuch an elegant card Fiona. And that amazing technique - so clever!
ReplyDeleteWow I love how you did that panel it really is stunning.
ReplyDeleteAn old technique that I never thought to use on the subtle embossing folder yet it's very effective. I love how you have done it with a window using scrap paper as well. Certainly steps up the technique.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea to mask the E/F, thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI know I am not completely stupid but I don't understand how you did this card (despite your directions and the fact that all the other respondents seem to understand perfectly well). However, I love the card and think the technique is one I would love to try. Do you ever do videos? Could you do a video of you making this card? I have the subtle EF and the Tasteful Touches stamp set (well, it is ordered but I haven't gotten it yet0 and I have the Stitched Rectangle dies so with any luck I feel like this card is a possibility for me. If I only had a brain.....
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad you love the card, and please don’t think badly of yourself if you don’t understand the very sparse details of how I made it. I have not yet done a video, but your request may be what pushes me in that direction 😃 In any case I will try to post something over the weekend. Fiona
DeleteTonilea - I have just posted some instructions on my blog. Please feel free to reach out if you need to.
